About the museum
The only museum in Bergen dedicated to trolls and Norwegian folklore. Located in the heart of the city, our museum blends handcrafted artistry with modern technology to create a truly magical experience for visitors of all ages.
Step into the enchanting world of Norwegian fairy tales, legends, and folklore, brought to life with great care and passion by our talented artists and craftspeople.
Our audio guide is designed to let you explore the museum at your own pace and choose how deeply you want to dive into the stories behind each exhibit. Translated into 11 languages, the audio guide is included in the price of admission.
Families with children can enjoy exploring the museum through a fun and engaging treasure hunt, while our youngest visitors are sure to be captivated by the museum’s interactive play area.
Recommended visit duration: 1–1.5 hours.
What to expect
Our museum consists of 5 areas: Norse Mythology, The Hall of Trolls, Activity Hall, Huldrefolket, and Hidden Beneath the Waves. We also have a dedicated game room and a small library.
A spectacular combination of art, fairy tales, and modern technologies awaits you. To get acquainted with all the installations, test our games, and take full advantage of augmented reality and other technologies at a leisurely pace, you will need about two hours.

Modern
digital technologies
We use a variety of modern technologies, such as immersive rooms, holographic fans, interactive exhibits, and Augmented Reality (AR) to make your museum visit more exciting and interesting. The technological aspects of the museum complement the art and stories we present and provide a new spin on old folklore. With the use of our touch screens, you will be able to fully immerse yourself in myths and legends like never before.

We spent a good coue of hours exploring the troll museum and found it fascinating. It was great to learn about 1000 years of Norse folklore, the trolls and all the other magical creatures that inhabit Norway.
The museum has pictures, texts, videos, and interactive exhibits that inform and entertain. Just be aware of the Olle Bolle song, it gets into your head.
An excellent place to visit in Bergen.
This was such a great little find, it was really well set up, I got the audio tour as like to read on tablet as well as listen, really interesting and great rooms- perfect for every age from small kids to young at heart, they have fun mirrors too so you can see in virtual reality what you look like as a troll or Viking
A Delightful Hidden Gem Not Just for Kids!
Troll culture at its finest!
We discovered this museum when we walked past it half a block from our Airbnb on a wet, blustery day in Bergen and decided to go in for a look.
If you’ve traveled in Norway, you know trolls are an important and well-loved feature of the country’s folklore and mythology. The colorful Troll Museum in Bergen is full of exhibits delightfully constructed and designed to enchant both children and adults alike. There are plenty of interactive features, dioramas, miniatures, digital screens, and a playroom for kids.
My favorite was the living room with a giant digital troll peering in the windows! The museum gives a great deal of comprehensive information about many Norwegian artists including fairy tale illustrator Theodor Kittelsen. As a side note, it was exciting to read about him here, then later travel to Oslo and view his 1881 original painting of “The Sea Monster” in the National Museum.
Care has been taken to present well-made exhibits, and it shows. I would recommend this museum to anyone visiting Bergen, with or without kids, and even on a sunny day!
Tip: they sell the best troll postcards (including Theodor Kittelsen Sea Monsters) we saw anywhere in Bergen. Or Norway! Our grands loved them.
